“STAY AWAY from these GE Fridges!”
The issue is a low electrical connection beside the freezer’s defrost drain trough. If the drain clogs, backed-up water can reach that connection. The shopping question is which GE models use a different layout.

The first two are my starting choices if you want internal water and ice made in the freezer. The PVD28 is the alternative if you specifically want an outside ice dispenser. Each model below includes the reason for its inclusion and a link to the evidence.
GE Profile PGE29BYTFS
This is the first GE French-door option I would compare for a full-size kitchen. It has a large four-door cabinet, a separate adjustable-temperature drawer and an AutoFill pitcher inside the refrigerator. The ice maker stays in the freezer. Allow for its 36¾-inch depth including handles.
The teardown photograph of this exact model shows the freezer connector block above the evaporator, with the drain trough below it. That is the placement difference I am looking for after the warning in the video.

Café CGE29DP2TS1
Choose this one if you want the large French-door layout with Café styling and customizable hardware. It keeps the AutoFill pitcher inside the refrigerator and makes ice in the freezer. The middle drawer adds flexible storage, including a soft-freeze setting. The linked model is stainless steel; other finishes and handle kits have different prices.
The exact-model teardown also shows the freezer connector block above the evaporator, away from the trough underneath. GE’s parts drawing for the reviewed revision matches the same freezer fan, cover and drain-trough components used in the Profile PGE29.

GE Profile PVD28BYNFS
This gives you four doors, a separate middle drawer and outside ice/water access. It is a different tradeoff from the two pitcher models above: the ice system uses an ice box in the fresh-food section. I prefer freezer-made ice when you do not need an outside dispenser, so this is the alternative for someone who values that convenience.
GE’s PVD28 service guide shows the freezer fan connection and harness holder above the evaporator and drain trough. It clears the specific low-connector placement concern; that does not make its separate ice-box system equivalent to the simpler freezer-ice arrangements above.

Prefer a simpler layout?
These GE options are already in BAB’s refrigerator catalog. A top-freezer gives you a basic cabinet; a side-by-side keeps outside ice and water available while making ice on the freezer side.
GE GTS22KGNRWW
This is BAB’s straightforward GE option when you want usable storage without a French-door price or an elaborate dispenser system. The linked white model is garage-ready and does not include an ice maker. An optional ice-maker kit is a separate purchase. Check the installation temperature limits before choosing it for a garage.
The exact-model teardown shows the fan and its wiring above the evaporator. GE’s freezer drawing shows the same upper fan arrangement, with the defrost drainage area underneath. It avoids the low French-door fan-plug layout discussed in the video.

GE GSS25GYPFS
This is the traditional GE side-by-side already on BAB. The ice maker is in the freezer side, and you get an outside dispenser without putting an ice box in the refrigerator compartment. The tradeoff is narrower shelves on both sides. GE lists this model’s production as ending in June 2026, so check remaining retailer stock for your ZIP code.
GE’s model-specific drawing places the fan assembly above the upright evaporator and the drain trough beneath it. This is a different freezer layout from the excluded French-door families. This assessment is based on the assembly drawing; it is not a close-up inspection of every cabinet connector or production revision.
